    lubricants manufacturing and marketing

    • Eight years writing regularly for Exxon Oilways (later Results) magazine, a 32-page, 4-color publication that went out to Exxon industrial customers four to six times a year. I covered Exxon product development, testing and usage, and wrote up success stories based on visits to industrial sites using Exxon products.
    • Ten years plus writing regularly for Shell Panorama (Equilon interchange) magazine, a 6-color, 24-page publication that went out to Shell and Texaco distributors four times a year. I introduced the idea of customer/product success stories to this publication; these stories have also been used for standalone marketing flyers.
    • Five years contributing to Lubes-n-Greases Magazine.

    refining and petrochemicals

    Ten years as key marketing writer for Nalco/Exxon Energy Chemicals (and its precursor companies); five years as primary marketing writer for Baker Petrolite; plus marketing pieces for Chevron, Natco and others. Topics include:

    • Refinery unit operations such as desalting, crude towers, hydrotreaters, FCCs, heat exchangers, etc.
    • Chemical programs for demulsification, corrosion prevention, vanadium protection, passivation, microbiological control, asphaltene fouling control, naphthenic acid control, tank cleaning, etc.
    • Boilers and water treatment programs and additives.
    • Fuel performance additives for cold flow, lubricity, etc.
    • Customer service and business-oriented applications.
    • Fluid management.

    oil and gas exploration and production

    I have written for Seiscom Delta, Landmark Graphics, Western Geophysical, Sperry Sun Drilling Equipment, Security DBS (drillbits), Shell Midstream Enterprises, Shell CO2 Company, Society of Petroleum Engineers, Weatherford International (both in the US and in Germany) and others. Experience includes:

    • Seismic survey equipment and processing: 2D, 3D, onshore, offshore
    • Drilling and workover
    • Drill bits, downhole measurement tools, directional drilling, cementation
    • Tongs, precision make-up, coiled tubing, and other heavy equipment
    • Mud systems and chemicals

    • Marketing proposals for two AspenTech supply-chain-management/plant optimization system for major petrochemical plants, plus subsequent system and user documentation
    • Highly technical product marketing material for Texas Instruments, Industrial Control Systems, others.
    • Ghostwritten book on "Offshore Platform Automation."
    • Collateral and training material for seismic processing applications.
    • Manuals and documentation for lubrication maintenance management programs.

    Eighteen years writing for Pilko & Associates, a high-level environmental consulting firm with clients worldwide, covering such issues as:

    • Due diligence for transactions (both domestic and international) in energy and power generation
    • Benchmarking
    • Litigation support

    In addition, I have written speeches, articles and video scripts for top executives, including the CEO of Nalco/Exxon, top officers of Dresser Kellogg Energy Services, the president of Shell CO2 Company, top officers of Pennzoil, and others.
