unsolicited testimonials

From time to time, clients drop me a note or an email expressing their appreciation. Mostly, people are too busy for this, so I really treasure these responses. Here are a few I've saved:
From an AspenTech senior consultant, after he'd sold a six-figure follow-on contract to a major energy-related company. I had written a "Business Process Description" that covered the goals of the AspenTech/client system, how it worked, what it had achieved in the past year, and future benefits that could be realized from follow-on work.
"I've never experienced anything like this. We went in to present to the president, and he said, 'You can skip the sales pitch, we've read the book. Where do I sign?' That was it!"

From an oil distributor, writing to the Exxon specialty services manager:
"I received my advance copy today of the brochure on Spartan Synthetic EP Gear Oils ...the finest brochure in the industry... bar-none. Nice work!"

From the President of Pilko & Associates:
"ConocoPhillips called us in to ask about performance management systems. When we arrived, we found the two key executives with the two Pilko Grey Papers you wrote spread out before them, the key sections highlighted. They had analyzed it and wanted to know more — it was a perfect selling opportunity. And the great thing about it was that they called us, we didn’t call them!"

From an oil distributor I wrote about in a Shell magazine:
"Linda, I knew
from when I first spoke to you, that you would make this story a good one. How could I not like it? It was as complimentary, personally, as anything I've received in my working career.

"What I didn't expect, was the degree to which you understand the technical, that thread you weave your story with, it's damn remarkable! ...You do have quite the flare."

From a company vice president:
"A belated thank you for the excellent story you wrote for me that was presented at the CMRA meeting in May. I received such positive feedback f
rom this meeting and still periodically receive comments from attendees. You have a wonderful talent. Thank you again for sharing it with me on this project."

From a healthcare computing magazine to the advertising manager who placed a story I ghost-wrote:
"Something quite unusual to us has occurred in that a number of companies have bought reprints of this article through us. Usually the vendor involved will and no one else. But [this article] really hit a few hot buttons – all positive. As a result I've taken orders ranging f
rom 500 to 5000.

"One comment that comes to mind was, 'We've been trying to say that for years but now that your creditable magazine has said it – maybe people will start believing it.'

"We have had a considerable number of very positive responses – more so than I recall ever hearing and thus we are very pleased with your efforts. Ross, it probably won't take 3 or 4 months to get the next one published."

[Ross forwarded this to me with the note, "You made everybody look great."]

From a manufacturer I wrote about in Lubes-n-Greases magazine:
"We just reviewed the first draft of the article you wrote for Lubes 'n Greases about [product]. It came out great! ... When the article does publish, please fill the enclosed coffee mug with your favorite beverage and drink a toast to a job well done!"

From another manufacturer I wrote about in Lubes-n-Greases magazine:
"Congratulations and thank you for the excellent article. It was factual, accurate and clearly communicated a rather complex story. Thank you for your kind, supportive words."

From a major graphics design and marketing communications firm:
"p.s. Just a little note of gratitude. Just wanted to say how much I appreciate your work for us, and I realize that you are one of the reasons for our success. Many many thanks!!!!!"

From an advertising agency account executive:
"Awesome article. Your writing gets better and better all the time."

From a magazine editor:
"This is why I love you guys! These pieces are terrific. A very smart alternative in a situation where we've had little to go on."

From the Division Manager of Marketing Communications of a major specialty chemicals company: (I asked for a letter for some purpose I no longer remember, but this was so nice I decided to include it)

"I have experienced an outstanding working relationship with Linda Day. Linda understands our business - specialty chemicals for the petroleum industry - as well as most of the technical professionals on our staff. Her technical background plus superior writing skills enable her to quickly and efficiently handle any writing project we give her.

"I believe the quality I most appreciate in Linda along with her writing skills is her sense of urgency. She responds to help me meet very short deadlines with her usual high degree of quality..."
